Guidance on the Conveyancing Process

Conveyancing describes the process by which legal ownership of a property is transferred from one owner to another.

There are many important stages of conveyancing which must take place before contracts can be exchanged and completion can take place. There is a useful summary of these stages in ‘The Law Society- Your guide to buying a home’:-

Your guide to Buying a home- The Law Society

Additionally, there is guidance on securing your future whether buying or renting a home with a partner:-

Sellers will find ‘The Law Society- Your guide to Buying a home’ a useful read as it summarises most of the stages for them too. Essentially the buyer’s solicitor/conveyancer will investigate the title on their behalf and the seller’s solicitor/conveyancer will provide evidence of the title and respond to any enquiries on their behalf.

How long will it take?

Understandably, clients often ask how long it will take for a sale or a purchase transaction to complete.

Transactions usually complete within 6-8 weeks though it does depend on how each of the stages go throughout the process and whether there is a chain of linked transactions. Communication between the parties solicitor/conveyancer is essential as is our communication with you to ensure that you are fully informed throughout the transaction.
